Cathedral parishioner and musician Attorney Norm Smith will give a talk Thursday, June 30 at 7:00 PM at St. Mark’s Church on North Avenue in Burlington on the dangers of Proposal 5/Article 22, which seeks to amend the state constitution. Norm also is a board member of Vermonters for Good Government. Vermont voters will decide in this year’s November election whether to add this article to the state document. Article 22 aims to protect abortion but Norm has written about and will argue that if approved, this proposal may fail in this goal and create new problems around health law. Article 22 reads: “an individual’s right to personal reproductive autonomy is central to the liberty and dignity to determine one’s own life course and shall not be denied or infringed unless justified by a compelling State interest achieved by the least restrictive means.”
